Inside the MOOD factory: how a timber house is born every 48 hours
The industrial model that builds 1200 m² per month
MOOD has an ambitious project and a clear goal: to build up to 1200 m² per month of CLT prefabricated houses with the logic of the automotive industry: assembly line production, scheduled timelines, quality control.
At the El Pinar plant in Uruguay, every step is carefully planned to ensure industrial efficiency: CLT panels are produced in-house, assemblies are optimised, and logistics are fully integrated. The houses are constructed in the factory, transported, and assembled in a short time, thanks to a technical supply chain designed to minimise variables and enhance control.
The entrance of MOOD into the market of prefabricated timber houses has also been reported by Forbes Uruguay who recognized the project as an example of industrial approach applied to construction. When an economic magazine discusses prefabrication, it's not for the sake of aesthetics: it's because there is a scalable, replicable, and technically sound model.
To successfully carry out this process, it is essential to have reliable connections, waterproofing solutions, sound insulation products, construction tools and equipment, and technical expertise. For this, MOOD has chosen Rothoblaas solutions and support.
The technical challenge of industrialization and solutions for CLT
Applying an industrial approach to timber prefabrication involves converting each technical element, panel, fastener, tape, or connection into a component with measurable and consistent performance.
The goal is not only to speed up times, but to minimise the variables that compromise safety, durability and quality.
In the MOOD model, each solid timber element must arrive on site with pre-prepared joints, precise tolerances, and active protections against atmospheric agents and transportation stress. This is only possible with specific CLT products and integrated technical design.
Rothoblaas provides everything needed to make this process repeatable and dependable: structural fasteners, assembly tools, membranes and tapes for waterproofing and airtightness, and soundproofing profiles. Each component is designed to seamlessly integrate into the production flow with precision and continuity.
Products and technical solutions for industrial assembly in CLT
With Rothoblaas products, every stage of the construction of MOOD prefabricated timber houses is supported by specific solutions for fastening, airtightness and protection, assembly and on-site handling.
Structural assembly
To ensure the stability and performance of the prefabricated building, the connections between structural elements must be mechanically reliable, precise and suitable for local conditions.
Here are some of the solutions adopted:
VGZ, fully threaded screw with cylindrical head for concealed joints, provide fire protection and seismic suitability.
HBS, countersunk screw for timber with a high pull-through capacity and seismic performance
HBS PLATE, screws for timber-to-steel joints with dedicated underhead geometry, optimised thread and installation tools that reduce the risk of premature failure (TORQUE LIMITER, SMARTBOOK TIMBER SCREW, WHITE PAPER).
Airtightness, waterproofing and material protection
The selection of tapes and membranes was based on the weather conditions and construction specifications.
Among the chosen components:
TRASPIR EVO 160, the highly breathable monolithic membrane with fire resistance B-s1, d2 and high UV stability.
TRASPIR 110, wind tightness, strong and lightweight membrane, it can be applied to both the external and internal sides of walls and roofs.
FLEXI BAND, universal high-adhesive tape with excellent resistance to UV exposure and weather elements.
Acoustic insulation: integrated solutions in the stratigraphy
In prefabricated structures, acoustic comfort is an essential parameter.
MOOD chose ALADIN, a resilient profile specifically designed as acoustic insulation to reduce impact sound.
A local partner to strengthen the production chain
The customer's choice of Rothoblaas was not only based on the products. The key to making a difference was our direct presence in Uruguay: a technical and commercial team that supports the entire process, from design to on-site installation.
Having a local, competent and responsive interlocutor is a real advantage in an industrial context, where every mistake can slow down production or compromise quality.
In a context where speed and reliability are everything, having a partner who responds immediately and knows CLT technology inside out is a crucial competitive advantage.
